Kenny Wharton & Steve Preen Take Management Positions

Newcastle Blue Star Football Club are delighted to announce our new first team management structure ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. The ex-Newcastle United legend Kenny Wharton will take control of the first team along side former Gateshead and Duston UTS player Steve Preen.

This breaking news comes after former manager Mark Bullock and assistant Daniel Bell departed last week.

Kenny Wharton has been at the club from the start of last season, working amongst all age groups and has been a key part of Newcastle Blue Star's success over the last 12 months. Kenny aged 58 played 290 games for Newcastle United between 1978-1989. After leaving Newcastle United as aplayer in 1989 he moved onto Carlisle United, Bradford City then onto Berwick Rangers scoring 27 goals over his career.

Wharton spent time coaching at St.Johnstone and Middlesbrough before returning to Tyneside in 1999. During his time at Newcastle United he took over John Carvers position as academy diretor before joining the coaching staff in the reserves. In 2010 Wharton was released by Newcastle United and became the director of coaching at Halifax, Canada.

Joining Kenny as manager of the first team will be ex-Gateshad and Dunston UTS striker Steve Preen. Preen joined Dunton UTS from Bedlington Terriers in 2006 scoring 62 goals. During his time over the river he played his part in Dunston's recent success lifting the FA Vase in 2012 at Wembley against West Auckland Town.

First up for Ken and Steve is a pre-season fixture against West Allotment, kick off a week tomorrow at Scotswood Sports Centre - 19:00.
