Blyth Town vs Newcastle Blue Star (11/08/2026)

After a dalliance with the FA Cup at the weekend, Newcastle Blue Star find themselves back in league action this evening and after pitching up in Blyth on Saturday, they once again return to this pocket of Northumberland in just a few hours.

Whereas it was the Spartans who played the role of opponents just over 72 hours ago, it is now time for Blyth Town to take over hosting duties and with the start that the latter have made this season, it is a case of out of the frying pan and into the fire for Blue Star.

Out of the frying pan because of the scorching conditions that Paul Brayson’s men had to perform in against Blyth Spartans at the weekend and although they gave a very good account of themselves against opposition placed a division above, things cooled off for the visitors late in the second half.

A rather even contest but one that saw Spartans come out on top by two goals to nil and although there would have been disappointment in not at least taking the tie to a replay, there was perhaps a greater sense of frustration from Blue Star’s management team.

That frustration coming from not taking any of the number of opportunities that were created at Croft Park rather than being largely outperformed and although defeat was the eventual outcome, there was plenty of positivity to be taken from the performance.

Now though, Blue Star are straight back into the fire of league matters and with the KD Stadium outfit currently sitting second bottom of the table, they know that there has to be an uptick in performance as soon as possible.

Especially as they travel to an outfit that although lost to Shildon in the same FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round at the weekend, currently find themselves top of the Northern League Division One table.

Blyth Town are one of four teams to still be unbeaten at this early stage of the campaign and they are one of three teams that are currently on 10 points, albeit their goal difference is the strongest of the bunch with 13 goals scored and just the one conceded at the other end.
