The football is coming thick and fast as we get ready to leave February behind and after Newcastle Blue Star suffered defeat in their last league outing, they will be keen to leave Tuesday’s trip to Marske behind as well.
In fairness to Marc Nash and his players, they simply have to. No point dwelling on a game where they were on the wrong side of five goals being shared and especially when the race for playoff places has become even tighter as a consequence of that reverse.
What was a four-point gap between Blue Star and Newcastle Benfield has been whittled back down to one after the latter managed to snatch maximum points at home to West Auckland on that same Tuesday evening.
A point clear but with three additional games to play and although movement up the table will undoubtedly be welcomed in the Blue Star; the main objective will be to first protect the position that they currently find themselves in.
That position is fifth before Friday’s trip to Crook and with this being the first fixture of the upcoming weekend, it also allows manager Nash and his players the opportunity to ask questions of those team sitting either side of them.
While this is not the first trip that Blue Star have made to Crook this season and with a 2-0 lead in their possession, the weather could not hold out. Match abandoned much to the visitors’ frustration and nothing to show for their efforts.
While the same could be said for Tuesday’s trip to Marske and although a late flurry of attack suggested that Blue Star could utilise their man advantage on the field to snatch a late point, unfortunately the damage was already done earlier that evening.
Now though, it is time to right that wrong and although there are games in hand to utilise, a handful are against the trickiest customers in the division and this means every point beforehand is going to be worth a whole lot more.
Something which sets up tonight’s clash rather nicely indeed. A big thanks to Crook Town for their upcoming hospitality and for those attending from an away perspective, safe travels both there and back.
