After a flurry of home league games at the KD Stadium, Newcastle Blue Star find themselves on the road for the first time this season and after struggles at Scotswood, they will be looking for better fortunes on enemy territory.
Three successive encounters in front of their own support but failure to find a first league win of the season has been a large source of frustration for Blue Star – frustration that would have increased after Friday’s defeat to Whickham.
A defeat that felt like a sense of déjà vu in the way that Blue Star have performed of late and just like in their opening two games of the season, they managed to break the deadlock but failed to secure all three points.
While for the second time this season, Blue Star opened the deadlock and ended up on the losing side. Whickham finding two well-taken strikes after Jakub Zych’s close range finish, all the goals coming in the second half.
Which means after Friday’s defeat and the subsequent league results that have followed both last Saturday and last night, it means that Blue Star find themselves in the second half of the league table.
More importantly, they find themselves second bottom and although the weight of the standings at this stage of the campaign is not as heavy as further down the line, it is still a position that nobody wants to occupy.
Which will only add extra fuel to tonight’s trip to Easington Colliery, the two sides have crafted quite a rivalry over the past few years and just like before, you should expect no quarter asked or given in just a few hours.
Tonight’s hosts know that a win would take them joint top after collecting seven points from their first three games and after getting the better of Carlisle City by four goals to one at the weekend, Blue Star know that they will be in for a challenge.
