This is it, the evening we have all been waiting for. First plays host to second in the Northern Alliance Premier Division and the title could be won on home turf. It is Newcastle Blue Star versus Burradon & New Fordley and the two teams are playing for the highest stakes possible.
No more looking at the permutations and weighing up the if, buts, and maybes. The equation for the current league leaders is rather simple - win this upcoming league encounter and the road to glory will finally be complete.
While it was an equation that was put in place after Burradon’s 4-1 away win at Cramlington on Saturday. A win that was eventually secured after going ahead early on. Another test of the challengers’ mettle and one that they passed with relative ease.
Of course, Brian Smith’s men moved a step closer to the title in midweek. A 5-0 home victory over Seaton Delaval was certainly emphatic and, on another day, there is no exaggeration in saying that it could have been eight or nine.
However, all that really matters at this present moment in time is the collection of maximum points. A feat that has been achieved in each of Blue Star’s last 11 league outings – 10 wins on the field of play and one courtesy of a walkover.
33 points on offer and every last one has been credited to their account. A monstrous run that could well be the making of champions in just a few hours. A monstrous run that has been a joy for supporters to cast their eye over.
With that said, Burradon have definitely played their part in the narrative of this season. They have almost matched their rivals step for step throughout the campaign and without such efforts, there would not be the drama that has unfolded over the past few weeks.
Both teams have had punishing schedules in the month of April, both teams have given it absolutely everything to get to where they are at the time of writing. Something has to give on Monday, but who is going to give it up?
A plotline that sets up this clash rather nicely indeed. A warm welcome goes out to the traveling Burradon & New Fordleyteam and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
