March madness in terms of Newcastle Blue Star’s fixture list for the month ahead. Eight fixtures across the next four weeks. A cycle of Tuesday then Saturday football starts in a few hours, the sprint towards the end of the season now beings.
While Blue Star sprinted into the lead against league leaders Shilton on Saturday. Dan Lanning’s arrowed strike drawing first blood to the visitors in the third minute. The perfect start for a side that had near perfect form going into the weekend.
Unfortunately, a trio of home goals would soon follow to end the visitors’ unbeaten run. Shildon showing why they have been a cut above the rest during this campaign, cutting through the Blue Star defence on three occasions within a half hour period on either side of the break.
Still enough time for Lanning to get a second late on but not enough to give Paul Brayson’s men a share of the points. Disappointment to come away empty handed but still plenty of positives to take into this busy fixture stretch.
Now though, the same group of players have to dust themselves off for the visit of Easington Colliery. A rivalry that has been keenly fought over the past few seasons, you will expect nothing less when they visit the KD Stadium in just a few hours.
This Easington outfit arrive in Scotswood having lost each of their last two league outings. Narrow defeats to Whitley Bay and North Shields following an impressive run of three successive league wins. Once again showing that everyone is capable of taking points off each other.
They like Blue Star still have playoff hopes at the end of the season, both outfits approaching the absolute margins of error if they want to make the top five. Still plenty to play for as progress up the league table is the main objective.
Something which sets up tonight’s clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Easington Colliery team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
