Newcastle Blue Star vs Guisborough Town (18/10/2025)

ree

Last Friday’s trip to County Durham was certainly an entertaining one and with some of the best goals you will probably see scored all season, the clash between West Auckland and Newcastle Blue Star turned out to be one for the ages.

Unfortunately, goals of high quality do not earn you extra marks come full time and although Blue Star’s efforts were of top quality, they ended up at a lesser quantity than that of Friday night’s fellow promotion hopefuls.

Hopes that from a West Auckland perspective would have taken a boost after the weekend’s seven-goal thriller went their way. Hopes that would have taken a dent from a Blue Star perspective after this 4-3 reverse means a third league game without a win.

A single point from the last nine leaves Marc Nash and his players with plenty of work to do and in a week where the pair of Chris Reid and Connor Oliver have both hung up their boots, the work arguably gets tougher for those still involved at the KD Stadium.

Tough but far from impossible as we enter the middle portion of the campaign and with half the division harbouring a realistic desire to at least earn a playoff place at the end of the season, the last thing any club wants to be is cast adrift by the time the festive period comes around.

Therefore, being a part of the pack is the most important thing for those in the hunt and Blue Star’s hunt for playoff football continues on Saturday as they welcome current league leaders Guisborough Town to Scotswood.

A position that they have only just earned for themselves after last weekend’s combination of results. A 3-1 home win at the expense of Horden Community Welfare further supplemented by Whitley Bay’s expensive 3-2 defeat at home to Boro Rangers.

Now that The Priorymen have reached the summit of the Northern League Division One table, they will want to keep hold of that position for as long as possible. At the same time, Newcastle Blue Star will be keen to return to winning ways as soon as possible.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Guisborough Town team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
