Newcastle Blue Star vs Heaton Stannington (30/08/2025)

ree

The Road to Wembley is back on the horizon and with Newcastle Blue Star having already made two steps in the right direction, they will now look to take their third against fellow local outfit Heaton Stannington.

Last week’s First Qualifying Round draw paired the West End of Newcastle with the East and after Marc Nash’s men managed to dump out Newton Aycliffe at the previous stage, their reward was a meeting with further opposition from the level above.

That Newton Aycliffe success on enemy territory came hot on their heels after securing Preliminary Round progress at the expense of North Shields. There seems to be something about Blue Star on the road when this competition is involved – the magic of the cup and all that.

A 2-0 away win placed in the history books when getting the better of North Shields at the start of the month. A 3-2 away win when edging past Newton Aycliffe in the middle of the month. What will the end of the month bring for the KD Stadium outfit?

Whatever the outcome, the prize money that Newcastle Blue Star have picked up along the way will certainly help the club’s bid for promotion and if things go well over the next eight months, they could be meeting Heaton Stannington on a more regular basis.

Today’s visitors operating in the Northen Premier League – East but as today’s hosts have already previously shown, they do not have too much respect when it comes to positioning within the football pyramid.

To get themselves in the hat for First Qualifying Round draw, Heaton Stannington were paired with Blue Star’s fellow Northern League counterparts Marske United. A 3-0 home win suggests a rather one-way encounter just a fortnight ago.

However, they now have to deal with the growing army of Blue Star supporters that have found residence in Scotswood over the past few years and with them already being given a taste for cup upsets both this season and last, they will fancy another helping on home soil.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Heaton Stannington team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
