Newcastle Blue Star vs Horden CW (03/10/2025)

After 80 or so minutes, Newcastle Blue Star’s recent trip to Kendal looked to be a profitable one. Fast forward another 10 and that profit had turned into a deficit thanks to two late goals from a fellow promotion rival.

A bright start for Marc Nash’s men saw Dan Wilson put the visitors ahead early on and with wave after wave of constant pressure to follow in the first half, the expectation was that at least a second would be added to the scoresheet by the break.

However, any additions to the records were absent on Saturday and as Kendal found a new lease of life after the interval, they also found parity as the clocked ticked down. Three points turning into one and now a case of having to hold steady until full time.

A task that looked all but complete until a rather contentious moment in the Blue Star penalty box. A Kendal player goes to ground, no claims for a penalty but the assistant referee waves his flag – you can guess what comes next.

Not only a penalty but a penalty for handball. Not a decision that went down well with anyone connected to the Scotswood outfit both on and off the pitch and even less acceptance by the time Dan Lister had to remove the ball from his net.

A galling way to lose any football game and especially as a top five position was once again in touching distance but with the visit of Horden Community Welfare on Friday there is no time for Marc Nash and his players to dwell on last weekend’s events.

And why should there be? With Friday’s upcoming meeting being a direct reverse of a league fixture just a fortnight earlier, Blue Star will hope to complete a quickfire double against the team they beat 4-0 in mid-September.

With that being said, Friday’s visitors do find themselves sitting third in the table at the time of writing and bounced back last weekend with a 4-3 home win over Marske United. They will be keen to make it two wins a row, Blue Star keen to start another winning run.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Horden team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
