Newcastle Blue Star vs Kendal Town (28/07/2026)

As the Northern League season got underway at the weekend, Newcastle Blue Star’s clash with Redcar Town was the first of three successive home games for Paul Brayson’s men - all scheduled with the space of seven days.

A quickfire tempo to the opening week of the campaign and with Blue Star being foiled at the KD Stadium on Saturday, they will hope for better fortunes when welcoming Kendal Town through the doors in just a few hours.

While the opening day seems to be something of a hoodoo for Blue Star at this level, in each of their three Division 1 clashes on the opening day of a new Northern League schedule, they have failed to collect maximum points.

As it stands, they had to make do with minimum points after suffering a 3-2 reverse to promoted Redcar Town. A result that would largely reflect frustration in the home dressing room at full time due to a handful of enforced defensive errors.

Then again, if you are to make errors, then better to get them out of your system early on and although losing your first league encounter is far from ideal, there is plenty of time to make good and generate momentum up the table.

Which is arguably a positive of having such a tight turnaround in terms of early fixtures, no time to dwell on what happened previously but instead, now placing full focus on a team that has been known to offer Blue Star stern opposition in the past.

While it must be noted that Kendal themselves went up against stern opposition at the weekend, as they also fell to an opening day defeat at the hands of local rivals Carlisle City and therefore, they will be just as keen to open their Northern League points account for the 2026/27 season.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Kendal Town team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
