Although Newcastle Blue Star still have two league games left remaining and hopefully some playoff activity to follow, their focus pivots to League Cup action tonight as a place in the last eight of this season’s competition is on offer.

Blue Star welcome Marske to the KD Stadium this evening and they do so in red hot league form. Paul Brayson’s men making it five successive wins on Easter Sunday as his side continue their hunt for as many points as possible.

Each of the last 15 that have been up for grabs, have since been collected by Blue Star and it was Sean Reid’s double at the weekend which made sure of victory over visitors Carlisle City – a game viewed by nearly 600 in attendance.

Those who came through the turnstiles would have seen Carlisle City take an early lead after pouncing on a lapse in Blue Star defensive concentration but once the early fog was cleared, the Scotswood outfit managed to go up through the gears.

Their playoff hopes continuing for at least another 90 minutes but before Saturday’s trip to Crook is planned, the focus pivots to knockout football. Newcastle University await in the quarter finals, the ultimate prize being the lifting of silverware at the end of the season.

Tonight’s opponents Marske made their way to the Third Round of the League Cup with a shootout win over current league leaders Guisborough. A 1-1 draw at the King George V Ground then being split by a 3-2 win from 12 yards.

While Marske will be hoping their cup form can continue now that league safety has been confirmed. Freedom from any relegation battle over the next couple weeks an undoubted sigh of relief and they will aim to play with freedom this evening.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Marske team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
