After being sunk by Marine on Saturday, Newcastle Blue Star's FA Cup exploits for this season have finally come to an end. Disappointment on the day. Pride for the run which was cultivated these past few weeks.
Disappointment that comes with matching National League Marine for such a large portion of the game. Disappointment that it needed one of the greatest ever goals scored at the KD Stadium to break the deadlock late on.
A one-goal advantage soon turning into two for Marine. They turned off at the junction marked FA Cup Third Qualifying Round. Blue Star instead parked in the knockout service station.
At the same time, manager Marc Nash and his players should be immensely proud for the wins they earned in the greatest club competition in the world but that same group know they cannot rest on their laurels for too long.
Especially as it is back to league matters this evening and the visit of local rivals Newcastle Benfield. While Blue Star will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in the Northern League Division One.
Seven days ago Blue Star were on the road and after a cagey first half at Northallerton, the introduction of Connor Oliver and his passing range helped the visitors get up the pitch. Eventually the Scotswood outfit would help themselves to two unanswered goals and maximum points.
While a maximum would certainly help Blue Star's bid to make ground on the teams above. A pack that includes Newcastle Benfield who are four points further ahead having played three games more and they will be just as keen to make headway up the league ladder.
Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Newcastle Benfield team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
