Newcastle Blue Star vs North Shields (18/09/2026)

After a diversion in and out of the FA Vase last Saturday, Newcastle Blue Star’s focus returns to the league in just a few hours and after suffering defeat to Newton Aycliffe just six days previously, the Scotswood outfit will be keen to return to winning ways where it matters most.

Not that the road to Wembley does not matter but after suffering a 3-0 home reverse last weekend, Paul Brayson’s men will have to forget about a trip to the capital until next season at the earliest as now they need to win at the earliest opportunity possible.

Especially as their last Northern League Division One outing also saw them fail to come out on top and after a 1-1 draw at Whitley Bay following a narrow home defeat to leaders Bishop Auckland, Blue Star have failed to win any of their last three in all competitions.

That run of three games without victory coming after a run of three successive league wins. The head of steam that had been cultivated by Blue Star has had water thrown over it in the past couple of weeks but it is fair to say that the side are far from extinguished either.

Which they cannot afford to be when they welcome local rivals North Shields to the KD Stadium in just a few hours. The last time these two teams met was back in May’s League Cup final and with tonight’s visitors celebrating that evening, they will be keen to extend any festivities.

They come into this clash having hit their stride in terms of league results and with a run of three successive wins under their belt, they arrive in NE15 as one of the form teams in the division – a statement backed up by their current fifth place in the table.

That said, North Shields have played two league games more than Blue Star this season and while they currently sit six points better off before this evening’s meeting, the league table does not quite tell the whole story.

With those two games in hand, Blue Star know that a victory tonight would significantly reduce that gap and perhaps more importantly, bring themselves right back into the conversation near the top of the table.
