Newcastle Blue Star vs Ryton & Crawcrook Albion (26/04/2024)

If you are keeping score, I believe this is the fourth attempt at Newcastle Blue Star attempting to welcome Ryton & Crawcrook Albion through their Scotswood doors.

Will Tuesday finally be the night when these two relatively local rivals take to the field in NE15?. If its not then we will see the reverse fixture take place before the opening duel has been lodged in the history books.

On the assumption that the weather is finally beaten, Blue Star will look to beat their second opponent in just 72 hours. Sunderland West End entered enemy territory on Saturday, they left it empty handed.

A win that puts Marc Nash's men back on the second rung of the Northern League's Division Two ladder, a win coupled with a late postponement for Bedlington sees the two clubs swap positions once again.

In terms of positions, it was a defender who netted Blue Star's only goal on Saturday. One was enough to earn all three points, one also completed the welcome return of Tom Bexton as his goal made all the difference.

Only goal difference currently separates Blue Star and Bedlington Terriers, but back-to-back wins will no doubt put pressure on the club that is also aiming to earn the golden ticket in the playoffs.

An end of season extension that looks unlikely to be afforded to Tuesday's visitors but they are not mathematically out of the race and victory on the road would only turbocharge any outside hopes of a top five finish.

Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Ryton & Crawcrook Albion team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
