For those who feel like you are living a Groundhog Day style existence at present, take solace in not being the only one. The miserable weather since the turn of the year will not shift, Saturday’s league game at home to Kendal scrubbed off due to the conditions.
Another postponement which backs up the March schedule to breaking point, a unbroken cycle of Tuesday to Saturday football in place for next month but first those involved will hope for a break in the weather this evening.
Should the conditions just be clear enough to allow play to be undertaken, Newcastle Blue Star will undertake Brookes Mileson League Cup action at home to Tow Law – the reward for getting the better of Penrith in the previous round.
While it is was Penrith where Blue Star last kicked a ball in anger, three points their reward after picking up a 4-1 away win last Tuesday. The unbeaten run for Paul Brayson’s men now extended to five league matches.
A run that has been so disjointed due to more postponements than games being played in recent weeks, the team may lie 11th in the table at present but that surely is not indicative of the team’s overall strength.
The league campaign resumes next week with a scheduled trip to Marske, now it is time to focus on the chance to win some silverware. Opponents Tow Law may be a division below but they would love nothing more than to craft a cup upset in just a few hours.
Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Tow Law team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
