It is probably safe to say that those connected to Newcastle Blue Star are not in a rush to return to Boro Rangers’ home ground. Two trips in the space of three days, two trips where Marc Nash’s men have ended up battered and bruised in defeat.
A 5-1 league defeat on the Wednesday then shortly followed up by a 3-1 defeat on Saturday – defeat that sees Blue Star’s FA Vase bid smash into a million pieces. Out of one knockout competition already, a squad that is also carrying more than a few knocks right now.
Before the weekend’s reverse to Boro Rangers manager Marc Nash was already running thin in terms of player availability. A squad that resembled the bare bones before kick off now more akin to a skeleton with two big games on this week’s horizon.
The horizon which puts the visit of Heaton Stannington on Saturday into the far distance for now and although the KD Stadium outfit are going to be up for the cup this weekend, they need to be up to the challenge that awaits them this evening.
A challenge that sees them return to league matters in just a few hours and with inconsistency being the main point of contention for the Blue Star at present, collecting all three at the expense of visitors Whickham will be the ideal to generate some positive momentum once again.
Although neither of tonight’s two teams will not want to make too much of their league placing at such an early stage of the season, they cannot ignore their respective placings all the same with 17th soon to play host to a team a position worse off.
Whickham still looking for their first win of the league campaign, Blue Star looking for their first league success in front of their own support and although the Road to Wembley is the main talking point these few days, the path to promotion needs to be resurfaced as well.
Something which sets up this upcoming clash rather nicely. A warm welcome goes out to the visiting Whickham team and support and for those who lend their voice to the home team, make sure to bring the noise throughout.
