After the KD Stadium played home to jubilant scenes last weekend, Newcastle Blue Star have been rewarded with another step on the Road to Wembley and with National League North outfit Marine making the trip next Saturday, Marc Nash’s men first have two league games to attend to.
The first of those takes place against West Allotment and with the nomadic club on the move once more over the summer, Blue Star will be hoping to continue their positive streak within the confines of Morpeth’s Craik Park.
A streak which began eight days ago with FA Cup progress up for grabs. Heaton Stannington the latest team to test Blue Star’s knockout acumen, they like North Shields and Newton Aycliffe would eventually hit the canvas.
Admittedly the game itself may not have been a classic and chances were few and far between for both sides. The difference being that Blue Star took theirs when it truly mattered, whereas Heaton Stan were guilty of missing theirs.
Of course, the spectacle is far less important than the outcome itself and with Leon Burke’s late winner proving to be the difference, he and his teammates will be keen to prove themselves against Marine in the FA Cup Second Qualifying Round.
Tonight though sees the proving ground pivot back to Northern League Division One affairs and although the fine dining of cup success taste incredible, it is the bread of butter of league football which Blue Star must enjoy the taste of once more.
Their last league away outing saw them off the pace at Boro Rangers as they fell to a resounding 5-1 away defeat and that result combined with others since has seen a gap open up between the two promotion hopefuls.
However, manager Marc Nash and his players know that games in hand are in their back pocket and with them still to be called upon, wins there and a maximum on Friday night will start to drive the Scotswood outfit back up the table.
Something which sets up tonight’s clash rather nicely indeed. A big thanks to West Allotment for the upcoming hospitality and for those attending from an away perspective, safe travels both there and back.
