Whickham vs Newcastle Blue Star (16/12/2025)

After a month’s worth of enforced rest, Newcastle Blue Star were back on the field last Saturday. Unfortunately for manager Paul Brayson and his players, the additional hiatus could not lead to a first win under the new setup.

Before the visit of Northallerton to the KD Stadium, Blue Star’s last outing in the Northern League was the 2-1 defeat to Whitley Bay. After the visit of Northallerton to the KD Stadium, it meant the Scotswood outfit had succumbed to another reverse by the same score.

This one arguably tougher to take due to the manner in which the visitors’ goal was conceded. With the seconds ticking down, it looked as if the second goal of the day was going to mean a share of the points.

However, with the game deep into injury time, Northallerton scored the third goal of the game to capture all three points. An air of smash and grab about it at the final whistle, a tough result for Brayson and his players to take.

Then again, tonight’s fixture at Whickham does not give those involved much time to dwell about Saturday’s loss and with the games now coming thick and fast, actually playing rather than training will arguably be of far greater benefit to Blue Star.

While they would also benefit from picking up a league win, foiled in their last two attempts but this is the first of two attempts this week. The short trip to Whickham in just a few hours, followed by a longer trip to Thornaby on Saturday.

That in itself is the first two of three successive away games that Blue Star will have to deal with as a Boxing Day trip to Carlisle is also on the agenda. Three tricky travels either side of Christmas, the hope for some early festive cheer this evening lingers in the air.

Something which sets up tonight’s clash rather nicely indeed. A big thanks to Whickham for the upcoming hospitality and for those attending from an away perspective, safe travels both there and back.
