Newcastle Blue Star can today confirm the departure of Michael Ndiweni, as the forward heads to America to purse a scholarship with The Ohio State University.
Ndiweni, who joined the Star in January of this year, leaves the club having made 19 appearances, scoring 10 goals.
The forward made an instant impact in NE15, scoring a number of crucial goals to help the lads secure a play-off place at the first time of asking in our debut Division 1 season.
Vital winning goals vs Penrith and Kendal Town saw the lads finish in 4th place, setting up a play-off semi final vs Boro Rangers. A fixture marked by two outstanding Ndiweni goals, sending the lads into a play-off final, and chance of a memorable third promotion in a row.
Another goal in the play-off final to cap off a tremendous first season for the Star, Michael will depart an absolute fan and club favourite.
Reflecting on his time at Scotswood, Michael said: “I loved every moment of playing for Newcastle Blue Star. As someone who grew up in the West End it’s was a great feeling representing this club. The club, the fans and the community are special and I just want them to thank them for everything.
"The high moment for me was the play-offs, we were so close but the amount of support from the fans was special. I will be keeping a close watch on results across the pond.”
First Team Manager Marc Nash, said: “Michael leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club; management, players & supporters.
“Since joining, Michael has given his absolute all and rediscovered his love & passion for the game.
“What started as us providing Michael with an opportunity to refined his form, ended with him nearly securing the club three promotions on the bounce.
“A huge character on and off the pitch, this of course comes as a blow to the squad after already losing Jack Daley, but we wish Michael all the best, and will be following his journey stateside from NE15.”
Go well, Michael.
