Newcastle Blue Star advanced to the third round of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup after beating Tow Low Town 1-0 in their first home game in over a month.

The Star dominated the away side having plenty of chances throughout the game, but were unable to find the finishing touch on most occasions.

The first real chance for the home side came in the 16th minute when Daniel Lanning pounced upon a defensive error, only for his effort to swerve away from the net from close range.

Charlie Smith found himself through one on one in the 23rd minute after another error by Tow Low’s defense, but their keeper, Dan Staples kept the ball from going in.

Blue Star's best chance of the first half came a couple minutes later to Jakub Zych who went through on goal after a brilliant passage of play, only to be denied by the near post.

The home side also suffered two injuries, to Charlie Smith and notably Liam Clavering, who had recently returned from another injury setback.

Blue Star continued to dominate the game in the second half, looking dangerous every time they went forward.

The breakthrough finally arrived at the hour mark as striker Jakub Zych’s sharp low strike managed to trickle into the net after pinballing off the away side’s defense.

The home side continued to dominate and create chances while also managing to keep Tow Low’s attack at bay.

A dominating display but with a contrasting 1-0 score line marked Newcastle Blue Star’s return at home after a month with a win, moving on to the third round of the competition.

Line Up - Dan Lister, Matthew Dopson, Jake Cunningham, Luke Heppell, Craig Scott, Connor MacLeod, Charlie Smith, Leon Burke, Daniel Lanning, Sean Reid, Jakub Zych.

Subs - Liam Clavering, Dean Armstrong, Harry Norris, Jack Maughan, Lucas Lowthian.
