Newcastle Blue Star suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Newcastle Benfield in the race for promotion.
It was a chilly night in Scotswood at the KD Stadium as Blue Star played at their home ground for the first time in 2025.
Benfield took the lead through Joseph Ames on the 18th minute mark following a corner as Benfield height proved to be the difference between the two teams as Ames headed the ball in the net.
Blue Star came close to levelling through new signing Micheal Ndiweni in the 84th minute as a vital block from a Benfield defender deny the goal.
Newcastle Blue Star came into this game after beating Guisborough town 1-0 to help with the promotion push as for Newcastle Benfield they were hoping to keep the pressure on Blue Star and the rest of the promotion pack after recently beating West Allotment Celtic 1-0.
For Blue Star there were no major changes from the team which last played with top scorer Dan Lanning leading the line and new signing Micheal Ndiweni starting from the bench.
It was a free flowing open first ten minutes as both teams were eager to get the opener. However, it was Newcastle Benfield who took the lead as Joe Ames rose the highest to head the corner ball into the back of the net 18 minutes in.
There wasn’t much to shout about before half time other than when a Max Emmerson shot was saved from close range by the keeper in the 35th minute.
Blue Star were better to begin the second half as they kept the ball well and made more of the right decisions to progress forward.
In the 51 st minute the Newcastle Blue Star fans got to see their new signing Ndiweni on the pitch as he came on for Rio Joisce to try and help Blue Star level things up.
In the 84 th minute it was so close for a dream debut for Ndiweni as his close-range shot was blocked superbly by a Benfield defender to give a corner.
Despite the better second half it wasn’t enough as Blue Star lost narrowly 1-0.
Up next for Blue Star is a Friday night trip to face Carlisle City at Gilford Park for 7:45pm kick off.
