Newcastle Blue Star are excited to announce a number of changes to the setup of our oldest junior teams, as we look to build on what is already one of the best player pathways into senior football in the region.
On the back of an impressive season for our Under 18s, and one that saw seven of that squad step up to play senior first team football, we have moved to strengthen and enhance our pathway offer.
The 26/27 season will see the introduction of an Under 17s team, providing more playing opportunities and chances to develop local talent, following an outstanding season by our current U16s that saw them claim both league & cup success.
Our Under 18s will be looking to build on a positive season and will be supported by a new look management and coaching team.
Gareth Edwards will once again lead the side, supported by the new additions of Colin Scandle and Ian Anderson.
Both familiar faces at the KD Stadium, Scan & Anders are welcome back and will add valuable experience and skills to the Under 18 set up.
The new coaching set up will again work closely with the first team management, identifying opportunities for players to step up and earn first team exposure.
U18 First Team Manager Gareth Edwards, said: “Last season was another positive one for our talented group of young lads, and these changes will help us take the next step in offering the best player pathway in the local area.
“We’ve demonstrated the opportunities that players can earn here, and why this is a great place for talented young lads to come and play their football.
“Welcome to Colin and Ian, this is a really exciting next step for this age group at the club.”
